My Approach

Clinical Supervision

I have wide experience of supervising practitioners conducting open-ended and NHS brief counselling. I supervise both groups and individuals. Although my clinical practice is primarily psychoanalytic, I enjoy working with practitioners from a variety of orientations.

A particular aspect of my supervision practice is the support and development of trainee therapists. Some of my areas of interest in this work include:

  • Exploring the particular attributes and interests each trainee brings to their work
  • Providing a space for non-analytic trainees to integrate psychoanalytic thinking into their own way of working
  • Developing expertise in managing boundary issues, liaising with other professionals and managing risk
  • Applying the skills and experience of open-ended psychotherapy to a time-limited model
  • Addressing the challenges of taking up a role in a counselling organisation
  • Making the transition to private practice
