In my current practice, I offer weekly or twice-weekly sessions. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are normally on the same day and time each week. My fee varies according to the time of day and frequency clients attend. My fee for a once-a-week evening session is £55. I have some reduced-fee spaces during the daytime. EMDR sessions are 90 minutes long and my fee for those sessions is £90.
Some people attend sessions on an open-ended basis without a clear end point in sight for most of the work, others use sessions until a particular issue has been resolved or attend for a set period of time. For many people, therapy is a very new process, different to anything they have experienced before. The only way to really find out what it is like is to try it. This newness and unfamiliarity can make people understandably apprehensive and anxious when they first start seeing a therapist. This usually eases over time. During the first session, you will have the opportunity to describe and explore what you are looking for, hear more about the work I offer and ask any questions you have. If we decide that I am not the appropriate choice for you, I am usually able to recommend an appropriate colleague.
Our work together is confidential – what is discussed between us remains private, in accordance with my professional ethics. There are certain rare circumstances where a therapist might release some information to prevent serious harm to an individual. There are some legal limits to confidentiality, such as under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 1989, and in a court of law, where a therapist may be required to answer questions about a client.
You can finish therapy anytime you want. We work together on the basis that when you want to finish our work together, we spend time during some closing sessions to discuss any unresolved issues.
